Toastmasters International aligns with major global privacy laws, including:

• General Data Protection Regulation (European Union) – Governs how organizations collect, use, store, and protect personal data of individuals.
• Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (Brazil) – Regulates how public and private organizations collect, process, and store personal data, aiming to protect individual privacy rights.
• Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) – Governs how private-sector organizations collect, use, or disclose personal information during commercial activities.
• Personal Data Protection Act (Asia-Pacific regions) – A patchwork of distinct national laws, rather than a single unified regulation, designed to govern the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data by organizations. Key examples include Singapore’s PDPA, Thailand's PDPA, Malaysia’s PDPA, and China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL).
• State Privacy Rights (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia) – Legally mandated protections granted to residents regarding their personal data, often referred to as consumer privacy rights or data protection rights. These laws allow individuals to access, correct, delete, and stop the sale or sharing of their personal data.

Yes. These privacy laws apply to clubs and Districts that have members or guests residing in one or more of the countries and states listed above. They also apply when a club or District uses goods/services from another company.

No. Toastmasters International does not sell personal data. See our Privacy Policy for more information.

Yes, you have the option to opt out of Toastmasters marketing communications via mail, email, or phone. You also have the option to remove your name from public reports concerning your educational achievements. Adjust your privacy settings on the My Profile page. If you need additional help, please email membership@toastmasters.org.

Yes, except for a request to delete your account. Once your information is deleted, it can never be retrieved. To be included back into the system, you will need to start your Toastmasters journey over again.

Your information should still be available on club and District rosters, but the rosters will also include your consent selections so leaders can more accurately handle your information.

Base Camp is hosted on a third-party platform and its privacy policies are compliant with privacy laws.

• Data minimization – only collecting and retaining data that is needed

If a data breach occurs, Toastmasters will:

• Investigate and contain the incident
• Notify affected individuals when required
• Report to regulators as required under applicable law
