What key factors are most important as a Region Advisor to help the District achieve success:
I believe the key areas are to gain the trust of the District leaders and to be available to support them as needed. I recognize that we have a broad range of leaders with varying levels of experience and work styles. I must build relationships with each leader and be adaptable and flexible to effectively work with them individually and with their District teams to best provide the appropriate support and guidance. In addition, I understand that each District has their own culture and as a Region Advisor, I like to promote sharing of best practices amongst the Districts so all Districts can consider innovative strategies and tactics to help them perform to the best of their abilities.
What key strengths do you bring to the District leaders?
I was surprised, but flattered, to hear that District leaders find me as a valuable source of information. When they ask questions, I always know where to go to find information. In fact, I'm working to help the District leaders learn to find information on their own when it comes to Toastmasters, and help them know where to go whether it is the Toastmasters Governing Documents, Toastmasters website, District Leadership Handbook, Club Leadership Handbook, Contest Rulebook, or just call World Headquarters’ District Support team (as examples), so they can be self-sufficient. I often try to answer their question by providing citations they can research on their own so they can learn to be more self-sufficient. My District leadership experience has taught me that information is power, and I would like the leaders to know that as well.
Why are you interested in serving as Region Advisor?
I am enjoying my role as a Region Advisor and learning a lot from my peers and District leaders. I feel that I am growing and broadening my skills especially in the areas of training facilitation, active listening, and conflict resolution. My desire is to give back to an organization that has enriched my life by continuing my efforts working the Toastmasters mission as we work together to achieve the Toastmasters envisioned future. I want to humbly contribute where I can, to help our Districts effectively achieve their mission. I understand that with diversity comes innovation and I desire to continue to work with Districts in my area of responsibility to provide support as well as communicate strategies and innovations that Districts could consider to achieve success.
